Singing of Australian National Anthem during Assembly
Posted by Uly ... At other schools, they sing the Australian anthem at assembly. We don't sing the Australian anthem at school. Is there a reason ? 15 June 2007 22:04
They do sing it sometimes. Usually at the bigger assemblies like the "gift-giving" assembly at the end of the year. They probably don't do it every morning because they recite Surah Al-Fatiha instead and perhaps it would take up too much time. I went to public school and we didn't sing it everyday, only at big assemblies. When I was in high school, most kids hated doing it and rarely ever sang a long. I don't think our school is unusual in this regard. EXCEPT when it is sang, I have noticed parents who refuse to stand up for it, as asked by the Principal/teachers. I don't think that kind of behaviour is appropriate. At the Olympics, we must stand up for everyone's national anthem.
